For the last six months, artist Asa Ana has lived inside a poem.

As the first artist-in-residence at one of several art-focused spaces emerging in Johnstown, Pa., Ana spent months reshaping a bedroom into representations of lines from his favorite poem by former U.S. poet Laureate Billy Collins, to create “Stanza in Blue:​ Caol Áit.”

New section to be added to Ghost Town Trail, will connect it to area park

A new section of the Ghost Town Trail is in the works to be completed in the coming weeks, just in time for the warmer months.

The new project will create a connection between Duman Lake County Park and the rest of the Ghost Town Trail.

This new connection will help people who camp at Duman Park to be able to connect to other trails with ease.

Conemaugh breaks ground on new building at Memorial hospital

Groundbreaking ceremonies Wednesday at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center represent more than just the first major construction there in 20 years, leaders say.

Hospital CEO William Caldwell called it the project “new chapter for Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.”

The three-story, 75,500-square-foot “D” building will consolidate Memorial’s surgical support services and cardiovascular services, allowing the hospital to establish a cardiovascular institute.

“This building we are breaking ground for today is really key to the future of Conemaugh Memorial,” Caldwell said.

Ribbon cutting celebrates successful start at 814 Lanes & Games

814 Lanes & Games has exceeded expectations since it opened three months ago, said Chris Hogue, one of the owners.

“It has been great,” he said.

“Every weekend, ‘Rock and Bowl’ is sold out.”

Additionally, Monday night trivia fills the bar and grill tables, and virtual reality gaming tournaments are another weekly attraction, he said.

814 Lanes & Games opened Jan. 4 at 1140 Frances St., Richland Township, the day temporary statewide COVID-19 closures were lifted.

Showcase for Commerce organizers plan late-summer defense gathering

Organizers of the annual Showcase for Commerce expect that, by the end of summer, the COVID-19 pandemic will have subsided enough for regional and national defense sector leaders to feel comfortable visiting Johnstown and interacting during face-to-face networking.

So, on Tuesday, Johnstown Area Regional Industries and Cambria Regional Chamber announced that this year’s Showcase for Commerce will be held from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2 at 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial, Frank J. Pasquerilla Conference Center, Holiday Inn Downtown Johnstown and Sunnehanna Country Club.
