The calendars have been set for 2017 JARI Consortia meetings.  The list of meeting dates and consortia information can be found on our website.
The year will “kick off” with the Manufacturing meeting at 8:00 am on January 10 at Greater Johnstown High School.  Members will have the opportunity to tour the shops and interact with students.  The Business and Education Consortium will be held at 8:00 am on January 13.  Goodwill Industries of the Conemaugh Valley will host the meeting and provide an overview of their programs and services.  Full agendas will be released 2 weeks prior to the meetings.

V25 Annual Celebration to be Held Next Week!

Don’t miss our first-ever Annual Celebration, to be held December 15 at 5:30 pm, at Aces in Cambria City! Join us for a holiday-themed party where capture teams and special guests will be presenting all the great things that are happening in Johnstown! Let’s celebrate, learn and network about the various V25 initiatives that have developed over the past year. All interested persons are invited to attend this free event. Hors D’oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available.

New Holiday Inn Express Opens in Richland

The Holiday Inn Express in Richland Township held their grand opening event on Monday, December 5. The new building was built in the same location that the former Holiday Inn Express building once stood. The Holiday Inn Express consists of 75 standard rooms, 18 suites, an outdoor pool, fitness center, free WiFi, business shuttle and two business spaces.

Mount Aloysius College Expands Facility

Mount Aloysius College broke ground on Friday, December 2 for the college’s future Learning Center for Health Science and Technology. The project will modernize and expand the college’s health science programs. It is expected to be completed in the fall of 2018.

Greenway and Trail Hub Planning Project

Vision 2025 and Discover Downtown Johnstown Partnership are accepting proposals for a one-time contract to perform professional consulting services! These services involve the preparation of planning documents for a proposed greenway and trail hub along Main Street in downtown Johnstown.
Goals include expanding recreation opportunities, celebrating cultural and historic heritage, bolstering economic development, increasing pedestrian and bicyclist mobility and promoting healthy lifestyles.

IMMEDIATE MACHINISTS OPENING!

Electromet Corporation (located in Richland Twp., Johnstown PA) is recruiting for individuals who have the following qualifications:

 

Machinist:

  • Operate standard machine tools to perform a variety of machining operations on work of a repetitive nature involving close tolerances.
  • Operate machine tool controls so as to machine a variety of parts. Primary duties are that of producing parts, but also may perform related bench work.
  • Set ups will be expected as skill and knowledge increase

EDUCATION OR TRADE KNOWLEDGE: General math skills with higher levels a plus. Basic skills to interpret drawings and an understanding of precision measuring instruments and their use.

EXPERIENCE: 1 to 2 years PREFERRED but not required.  Knowledge of basic machining a PLUS.

“Financing Your Business in 1, 2, 3” a Success!

The Somerset County Commissioners and JARI hosted the Financing Your Business in 1, 2, 3 seminar on November 16, 2016 at the Somerset Country Club.

Attendees learned about the financial opportunities available from the SBA, St. Francis SBDC, SCEDC, Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ), SBA Microloan Program, JARI Growth Fund, the Progress Fund, Southern Alleghenies Loan Programs and SBA 504 Program.

Learn About Apprenticeships

If you are interested in establishing an apprenticeship program in your company, please join us for a “how to” information session on Wednesday, November 30. The session will be held from 9 AM to 11 AM at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, Workforce Education Center located at 101 Community College Way, Richland Campus.
Stuart Bass, Executive Director and John Tkach, Director of Projects from Keystone Development Partnership will be presenting. The session is part of the second annual National Apprenticeship Week.
“The goal of the National Apprenticeship Week is to educate businesses and leaders about the importance of Apprenticeship programs and how they can improve productivity and profitability, standardize training, reduce turnover, receive tax credits and more. These programs can lead to great jobs that also help positively impact our economy,” said Stuart Bass.

Learn How to Prevent Shoulder, Back and Neck Injuries

Members of the JARI Manufacturing Consortium invite you to join them for a “mini” workshop on Preventing Neck, Shoulder and Back Injuries on a Manufacturing Floor.  The content will be applicable to a general audience as well.  The workshop presenter is Brian Dillon, DPT, Facility Director/Staff Physical Therapist, PHOENIX Rehabilitation and Health Services.  The workshop will be offered at the Manufacturing Consortium meeting at 8:00 am on November 8 at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, Workforce Education Center, Richland Campus (101 Community College Way).  There is no cost to attend.  Click here for the meeting agenda.

Vision 2025 Consultant Receives Business Recognition

Ryan Kieta, a consultant who provides community development services to JARI for the Vision 2025 initiative, has been named to Pennsylvania Business Central’s 2016 Class of Foremost Under Forty in the October edition of Pennsylvania Business Central.
Editor Spencer Myers summarized the honor by writing, “Each honoree was selected by our editorial board for their grit and determination to keep growing in their chosen field… The selection committee based its final selections on nominees who have made a positive impact on the Central Pennsylvania business community by consistently moving their business forward, adapting to major changes in their personal and professional life and giving back to the community through volunteering or mentoring.”
