Business Counseling & Training
JARI provides a comprehensive suite of customized, no-cost, business counseling services designed to assist with a business start-up or expansion.   Services include:
  • Market research assistance.
  • Marketing and sales planning assistance.
  • Connections to other economic development groups at the federal, state, or local level with assistance programs - either financial or technical - relevant to your business.

  • Self Employment Assistance (SEA), a specialized program that assists individuals planning to open their own business. Individuals currently receiving unemployment benefits retain their benefits while getting started.

Business Incubator
JARI owns and operates the JARI Center for Business Development, a true business incubation facility located at 160 JARI Drive.  The JARI Center features the following amenities for emerging, for-profit businesses:

Business Park Sites
JARI owns and manages three industrial parks:  The Johnstown Industrial Park (map & tenants) and the Johnstown Business Park (map & tenants) in Cambria County, and the Quemahoning Industrial Park in Somerset County.  These three parks are home to 38 local, national and international companies employing nearly 2,300 people.  Sited businesses include light manufacturers, distributors, technology-based companies, financial service institutions, non-profit organizations, and a powdered metals company.

Johnstown Business Park/Johnstown Business Park Expansion

The 68 acre Johnstown Business Park is ideally suited for office, light industrial and warehouse/distribution facilities.  All infrastructure is on-site, with shovel-ready lots.  The park is located within one mile of US Route 219 with access to the Pennsylvania Turnpike and US Route 22.  The John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport is within three miles of the park.  18 acres of the current park remain for development.

An expansion to the park is underway that will add 92 additional acres on nine prime lots.  These light industrial parcels are designed to house companies employing up to 650 people.  The expansion is expected to be complete by fall 2007, but interested parties can review options now.

Johnstown Industrial Park

The Johnstown Industrial Park, located in Richland Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania is a 223-acre fully-operational industrial park with leading manufacturing companies such as:  Concurrent Technologies Corporation, Pepsi Bottling Group, and Lockheed-Martin Aeroparts as tenants.  

The Johnstown Industrial Park was built in 1974 and is located only one mile from U.S. Route 219, a limited-access four-lane highway, and 3 miles from the John Murtha Johnstown Cambria County Airport.  It is the perfect location for any company that needs light industrial, office or warehouse/distribution space.  All utilities, including digital fiber optic telecommunications are on site.

Quemahoning Industrial Park

The Quemahoning Industrial Park, home to North American Höganäs, was built in 1978 and is a 528-acre park located in Quemahoning Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.  The industrial park is located 18 miles via Route 219 to the Pennsylvania Turnpike and 10 miles from the John Murtha Johnstown Cambria County Airport.  This park could be developed for industrial, manufacturing and warehouse/distribution companies.

Government Procurement
JARI's Procurement Technical Assistant Center (PTAC) provides an array of services to assist companies in securing federal, state and local government contracts and subcontracts.  Services include:
  • A Bid Match system and related support services that link client capabilities with government solicitations, proposals and other related business opportunities. A nominal fee is charged for this service.
  • Customized supplier seminars that link prime contractors with subcontractors, and provide specific bid information to local companies competing for government contracts.
  • One-on-one specialized procurement counseling, including assistance with Central Contractor Registration (CCR) and HUBZone, small-disadvantaged, woman-owned, and veteran-owned small business certification.

Professional Networking Exposure

JARI and its affiliates produce a number of publications, trade shows, and other events to generate exposure and enthusiasm for the region and its companies, and to provide networking opportunities.  Examples include:

Workforce Development

JARI helps local businesses identify and achieve training goals and improve employee skill sets.  Programmatic activities include:

  • Operation of seven industry consortia to identify common needs for improving the skills and performance of new hires and incumbent workers. Consortia include Cambria County Manufacturing, Somerset County Manufacturing, Cambria/Somerset County Safety, Cambria/Somerset County Health Care, Cambria/Somerset County Hospitality, Cambria County Business & Education and Cambria/Somerset Transportation Consortia. More than 300 business leaders from 250 area companies belong to the consortia membership. Consortia members benefit from networking and educational opportunities that can improve their competitive edge, including low-cost workforce training, conferences and workshops.  

  • Business training needs assessment, short and long term training plan development assistance, and subsequent funding mechanism pursuit.

  • Displaced worker re-training and re-employment assistance.

  • Identification, placement, and subsidies for college intern positions.

  • Industry specific training classes.
