TPI Feature:

JARI will host a Finance Expo on March 18, 2008.  Various experts will present information on available business financing options in our region through sources such as the Ben Franklin Technology Partners, Idea Foundry, Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse, the Pennsylvania Angel Network,  commercial lenders, and others.

AIM@Johnstown:  University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown alumni were invited to participate in a new initiative sponsored by the Greater Johnstown Keystone Innovation Zone and UPJ.  AIM@Johnstown's pillars are to Amplify learning,  Integrate UPJ and community activities, and Mentor students.  The program is modeled after similar successful programs in other U.S. university cities designed to remove campus boundaries and immerse students more interactively with the surrounding community.

Upstarts and Innovator Series:  Lynne Faint, founder of Principle Court Reporting Services, Inc., was the featured entrepreneur at Mount Aloysius College.  Faint provided the students insight relative to her experiences as an entrepreneur in Greater Johnstown.  Ms. Faint, a Mount Aloysius graduate, now owns several companies under the umbrella of Principle Diversified Business Group, Inc.  For more information on Upstarts and Innovators, contact Amy Noon at 814.535.8675 or anoon@jari.com

eBizITPA applications available:  Limited funding is now available to small and medium sized businesses through a reimbursement grant program for the implementation of information technology programs (designing web sites, e-commerce applications, server upgrades, customized database creation, and more)Funding is available to any company, not just IT companies.  To date, more than $730,000 has been awarded to approximately 300 companies.  For more information or to apply for funding, visit the ebizITPA website.  Contact Ron May at 814.898.6532 or ron.may@ebizitpa.org with any questions.

Career Fair:  The 13th Annual Cambria County Career Fair will be held on May 6, 2008, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Pasquerilla Conference Center in downtown Johnstown.  500+  job seekers typically attend.  Employers wishing to participate can contact PAID at 814.255.7243.  Cost of a table for employers is $50 (lunch included).  Admission is free to all  job seekers.

Business Plan Seminar:  The Small Business Development Center at Saint Francis University will be hosting "Anatomy of the Business Plan" on February 13 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the SBDC in Loretto.  Cost is $20 per person, which includes a subscription to Inc. Energy News:  The Renewable Energy Center at Saint Francis University received two grants from Pennsylvania totaling more than $375,000.  These Energy Harvest grants will be used for the continuation of the Pennsylvania Wind Assessment Program (PennWAP) and a Geothermal Heating and Cooling System Project.

Johnstown Association of Information Technology Professionals:  The JAITP is dedicated to bringing together area IT professionals for networking, education, and entertaining activities. Congressman Murtha Announces Information Technology Partnership:  Congressman Murtha, along with business leaders from Northrop Grumman Corporation, Conemaugh Health Systems, and Veterans Community Initiatives announced the formation of a health care information technology partnership that will bring new jobs to our area, strengthen the existing workforce, and continue to provide a technology-based niche in our region.  The Johnstown Tribune-Democrat story is here.

Northrop Grumman's "On-Shoring" Plan:  Northrop Grumman is "on-shoring" technological jobs to rural America to increase the number of U.S. college graduates qualified for technical work while providing jobs to rural areas and cost-effective labor to Northrop Grumman.  Johnstown is one of the areas that NG selected for a center.   Read the BisNow on Business story here.
