Entrepreneur
Salvatore "Sam" Valenty, President and CEO of Valenty Bottled
Water, addressed a
packed classroom of business students at Saint Francis University
on October 22. He spoke of his
experiences as an entrepreneur
in many business ventures over the years with words of encouragement to
the students in attendance. Mr. Valenty was a speaker through
GJKIZ's continuing Upstarts and Innovators Series. To read

Torchbearers
Series: The second installment of the Torchbearers
Series was held on Thursday, November 1, at 7:00 pm in the Frank
J. Pasquerilla Conference Center, downtown Johnstown. The featured
speakers were Dan Perkins and Dr. Donato Zucco who
provided an
overview of The

Say Goodbye to Stream Pollution. A recent article reported by
Randy Griffith in the Johnstown Tribune Democrat provides
hope to area residents that our streams may some day be free from acid
mine drainage. There is a pilot project now being undertaken in St.
Michael. This innovative acid-mine-drainage treatment system
has the potential to transform streams into treatment plants that clean

Congratulations
to Kuchera Defense Systems. A second award totaling $600,000
was made by Kathleen McGinty, State Secretary of Environmental
Protection, to further develop Kuchera's
Center For Excellence for Advanced Energy Systems Manufacturing.
The original grant in 2006 resulted in the creation of 50 new

Congratulations
to Johnstown Redevelopment Authority (JRA). JRA received
$727,000 in awards through the Department of Community and Economic
Development's (DCED) Housing and Redevelopment Assistance Program
slated for project's in Johnstown's Eighth Ward and West Taylor
Township. The project funds are intended to assist with
community and economic development as part of Governor Edward Rendell's Economic
Stimulus Package. To read more information on

Green
is the new color of Autumn in Johnstown. As reported in the Johnstown
Tribune Democrat by Shawn Piatek, The Pasquerilla Conference Center
was awash in "green" last week with the American Institute of
Architect's Middle Pennsylvania Chapter's yearly symposium featuring
the
main topic of "Investing in Green." Information
was presented in workshops and by speakers to promote and support
green-building techniques. More information can be found in

Hospital
Hi-Tech. In a move toward progressive innovation, Conemaugh
Hospital now has free Internet access for patients and
visitors. Hotspots at the Main Campus (Franklin St.) are in the
Clinical Pavilion Atrium, CrossRoads Cafe, patient/family waiting
rooms, and inpatient rooms. At the Lee Campus (downtown), the
hotspots are in the lobby and waiting areas. You can find

Internet2
MORE THAN (2x) twice as fast. Completed in August of 2007, the new
Internet2 network now is ten times faster, a 100 Gbps
capacity. This network, run by Level
3 Communications, Inc., parallels the regular Internet to allow
universities, corporations, and researchers to share large amounts of
information in real time. It is expected that this network could
increase capacity another four times to 400 Gbps.
