Somerset
County and JARI Host Government Contracting Workshop. More than 80 people from throughout Western Central PA attended a day long
workshop in Somerset on February 24 that provided details on doing business with the Pennsylvania and Federal Governments. The Somerset County
Commissioners, Economic Development
Council, and Chamber of
Commerce partnered with Johnstown Area
Regional Industries and other business service providers to host the event, which was designed to assist local companies in getting more

The World Comes to Windber. The World Health Organization held its annual
Winter School February 23 through February 25 at the WindberPlace Education Center on the campus of Windber Medical Center. The purpose of the summit was to
explore strategies to improve health promotion and disease prevention around the world. This is the first time the event has been

2020 Regional Vision is a talent attraction effort for the Greater Johnstown
region. The first phase of this project - a survey - is complete. The second phase kicked off on February 9 with over 100
individuals chatting in face to face brainstorming
sessions about the region's challenges and opportunities within seven indices: vitality, earning, learning, after hours, around town, social capital
and cost of lifestyle. The information from the survey and brainstorming will be compiled and analyzed to create a strategic plan for our region’s efforts to
attract and retain young professionals and entrepreneurs.

relayed his experience working for a start-up business in Johnstown.

Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center instituted a 2+2+2 Biotechnology
Program that provides high school students with college credits through dual enrollments, job shadowing, internships and research
projects.
In 2006, the
GJCTC program partnered with Lampire
Biological Laboratories in Everett, PA, to work on research projects involving cell counts and cell viability. The results of these
findings were presented by the students at Career and Technical Education Week.
In 2008,
GJCTC's program was selected to receive the Education Workforce Leadership Award for their commitment to
biotechnology education. More information about the program is here.
